Phil Vedda knew he’d own a print shop one day, and he wasn’t shy of letting others know it too. In fact, some of his classmates still remember him proclaiming this fact in the halls of Emerson Junior High in the 1940’s.
The entrepreneurial Vedda family had emigrated from Sicily, seeking the freedom that the shores of America promised from abroad. Phil’s interest in the printing process was sparked during technical classes he was taking in school. He immersed himself in the business as an apprentice, taking years to learn the trade from the bottom up. As the Korean conflict arose, Phil joined the US Military, serving two years in Germany. Upon his return, he once again found work, not surprisingly, in the printing industry. A few years went by and finally, at the ripe age of 23, Phil scraped together an offer of $1,600 cash for the rights to all the presses and equipment at a local shop that was going out of business. To his surprise, the offer was accepted and thus an enterprise was born. Vedda Printing+ officially opened its doors in 1956.
Since that time Vedda Printing+ has operated successfully through 5 major recessions. Now on its 2nd generation of family ownership, a new vision is taking shape. This is nothing out of the ordinary of course, evolving based on the needs of your customers is the key to staying in business for over 65+ years. Reinvention is what defines Vedda Printing+.
